Grilled Steaks with Black Garlic Sea Salt

For the perfect New York strip steak, you'll want to start with a good-quality cut, about 1½ inches thick. Take it out of the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature. This is the key to even cooking, my friends. Liberally season your steaks with our Black Garlic Sea Salt, and don’t forget the edges!

Heat a cast-iron skillet until it's smoking hot. It should be so hot you can barely hold your hand over it. Trust me on this – it's the trick to getting that beautiful crust we all love. Place the steak in the pan and don't touch it for 5–7 minutes. Flip it once, and cook for another 5–7 minutes for medium-rare. Remember, if you're not sure, it's better to undercook – you can always put it back in the pan!

Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. How easy is that? Slice and place over your favorite chef salad, mashed potatoes, or shoot – by itself. Bon appetit!

  1. Let the steaks sit at room temperature for about 40 minutes before grilling.
  2. Heat your grill to high heat.
  3. Brush the steaks on both sides with extra virgin olive oil.
  4. Season the steaks liberally with s.a.l.t. sisters Black Garlic Sea Salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Once the grill is hot and ready, arrange the steaks on the grill.
  6. Grill until uniformly seared and slightly charred, about 5–7 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting time for desired doneness.
  7. Transfer the grilled steaks to a cutting board, tent loosely with foil, and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  8. Slice the steaks against the grain and serve immediately.
