  • 1 large yellow onion, minced

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 6 Tbsp. Salt Sisters Smoky Italian Bread Dip

  • 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour

  • 2 (28 oz.) cans crushed tomatoes

  • 3 c. chicken stock

  • 8 fresh thyme sprigs

  • 2 Tbsp. sugar

  • 1 ancho chile

  • Salt Sisters Applewood Smoked Sea Salt, to taste

Directions

  1. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the minced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 8 minutes.

  2. Stir in the garlic and Smoky Italian Bread Dip, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir constantly for 2 minutes, allowing it to cook until golden and slightly crispy.

  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, followed by the chicken stock, thyme sprigs, and sugar. Drop in the ancho chile and bring the soup to a gentle simmer over medium-high heat.

  5. Reduce the heat to medium-low, partially cover the pot, and let the soup simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally to enhance the depth of flavor.

  6. Remove the ancho chile and thyme sprigs, then taste and season with Applewood Smoked Sea Salt to your preference.

  7. Serve warm, garnished with a swirl of crema and fresh basil. Pair with crusty bread for the ultimate comforting meal.

Deep, smoky, and layered with rich flavors, this soup proves that the best meals are the ones made with care.
